Dear Supervisors‭, Parents, ‬and Delegates‭,‬

Welcome to Canadian Youth Debate Council Model United Nations. My name is Helen Huang‭, ‬and it is an honour to serve as the Secretary-General of CYDCMUN 2019. ‬On behalf of the Secretariat team‭ ‬and BC Forensics League‭, ‬I would like to formally invite you to the second iteration of CYDCMUN‭, ‬held on March 30th‭ ‬at Douglas College in Coquitlam.

Located at the heart of Tri-cities, we take initiative in expanding the diplomatic and educational aspects of Model United Nations across the Lower Mainland. Being one of the most recent conferences to resurface in Coquitlam, we welcome hundreds of high school students with varying delegate experience in MUN and debate alike. As a sub-branch from BC Forensic League, a non-profit debate association, our conference exemplifies the mission statement that we set out to debaters: Motivating the world, one speaker at a time. By starting off at an affordable price for a day of just indulging in political, economical, and social facets of global affairs, we catalyze a bold step for delegates to embrace the necessity of problem solving and critical thinking in our political climate.

During our conference, students like you will take on the position of a United Nations representative for a specific nation. By adopting a countries’ foreign policy, individuals will truly be able to emulate the fast-paced environment of UN Committees through CYDCMUN. After a successful opening iteration, we have put together an additional committee to further partake in an exceptional educational experience. During this one day, delegates will have the opportunity to represent their countries’ solutions for unsustainable forestry, raise awareness on indigenous cultures, and revisiting the increasing threats of terrorism. The endless opportunities don’t end there. Delegates wishing to place themselves in history can be immersed in the expansive nature of the Japanese through the League of Nations. These exclusively selected topics offered by the dais team hopes to supplement delegates’ individual growth and fortifying pressing issues that plague international affairs.

It is our central aim for delegates to come out of our conference feeling accomplished and confident to take on the responsibility of being our generation’s changemaker. Together as a team of dedicated Secretariat members, I am undoubtedly thrilled to see individuals seeking for educational empowerment walk through the doors of Douglas College. We hope to see you join this wondrous adventure of ours in March.
