The Case Competition
What is a case competition?
At business conferences, students, or delegates, work together with members on their team to participate in a case competition. A case competition is an event where teams receive a case study which is based on problems they could encounter in the real world. For a limited period of time, the teams must identify the most prominent issues facing the company and develop a recommendation strategy to address these key issues. Once the time is up, the team must then skillfully present their idea to a professional judging panel and be prepared to answer any questions the judges might have.
How does it work?
- Delegates will register and form a team of 4-5 people of their choice. If delegates decide to register as an individual, they will be paired up with other individual delegates.
- Teams are given 1.5 hours to read over the case study, identify the key issues, develop a recommendation strategy, and prepare the presentation.
- Once the time is up, teams will give a 7 minute presentation in front of a panel of professional judges or business experts, followed by a short Q&A session.
- Using the same case, each team will have the chance to present a second time to another panel of judges.
- The four highest scoring teams will make it to the finals.
In the finals, the overall winning team will receive a $1,000 grant from miniEnterprize to fund their business idea.

Frequently Asked Questions
What do I wear to the conference?
It is strongly recommended that students wear Western Business attire to the conference. Business casual is also permitted.
What should I bring?
A laptop, a charger for your laptop, something to take notes with, and a reusable water bottle. In line with our environmental conservation policy, please note that we will not be providing plastic water bottles.
What if I don't have a team of 4-5?
We will pair you up with other dedicated and passionate individuals, whom you will meet on the day of the conference! This is a great way to meet new people and make meaningful life-long connections.
What if it's my first time?
There is nothing to worry about! This year, miniEnterprize is offering a beginner’s workshop prior to the beginning of the conference. Additionally, we have prepared “How to Case Comp” Slides that will be sent out one week before the conference. Following the conference, judging criteria and feedback forms will be sent by email so that delegates will know exactly what it is that they can improve on for next time!
Volunteer Opportunities
Welcome to the volunteer registration for miniEnterprize 2019, and thank you for your interest in our conference!
MiniEnterprize 2019 will be held on Saturday, February 9th at the UBC Sauder School of Business. As a conference volunteer, your responsibilities will include a combination of managing registration, setting up/taking down rooms, timekeeping for the case study competition, and other related logistical tasks. Expect to be required to arrive at 9am by the latest; lunch will be provided during the conference. If you are only able to commit to part of the conference, that is fine as well—there will be space for additional information at the end of this form, where you can indicate your times of attendance.
