Preventing Japanese Expansion in Southeast Asia

The predecessor of the United Nations, the League of Nations was an international organization created after the First World War to provide a forum for resolving international disputes. Ever since its inception, the League of Nations was criticized by historians for being a bystander in international conflicts in a time where nations were plagued with economic recessions and international disputes. However, at CYDCMUN delegates have the opportunity to solve one of the greatest international crises the international community has ever seen, the rise in Japanese expansion. Eric Birzneck

Eric Birzneck is a junior in the IB Diploma Programme at Port Moody Secondary serving as the Chair for the League of Nations. Aside from MUN and stressing out about school, Eric can be found engaging in activities such as hanging out at Coquitlam’s Henderson Mall every single day, texting friends in Korea at 3am, getting called by his Facebook name in real life, eating fried chicken, and being used as a human training dummy in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He is ecstatic to meet all the delegates, and looks forward to a productive and exciting committee.

Skyler Chan

Skyler is a sophomore at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary’s Prelude French Immersion program and is truly elated to serve as the director of League of Nations. The true culmination of debate, public speaking and global affairs, all of which are his passions: embodies within Model United Nations. Ever since researching a country he didn’t know existed (Albania) in grade 8, until now after over 10 MUN conferences, he’s fallen not only in love with Wikipedia, Thesaurus.com, and Google Docs, but the magnanimous MUN community that he is truly grateful to be a part of. Outside of MUN and debate, Skyler can be found trying not to lose 15-0 while fencing, trying not to go sharp on the flute, and studying for his glider exam. During his real free time, he can be found storming the streets of downtown with his camera and writing run-on sentences. He’s looking forward to welcoming all delegates in March!

Denny Tan

Denny is a grade 11 student at WPGA who's just entering his 5th year of MUN. He is usually described as quiet by those who haven't heard him on the podium. Although he is not particularly magniloquent, he has nonetheless developed a passion for speaking. Outside of MUN and Debate, Denny can be found drinking root beer, building models, or trying not to succumb to the unifying narrative of anxiety. He welcomes you all to the league.
